Active Membership (Voting Member)

  • Be a member in good standing of one of the major societies representing their core specialty
  • Be board certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or equivalent for international applicants
  • Attend a MSS course/lab or ASPS EdNet online course 
  • Provide a letter of support from current member
  • Perform five surgery cases in three of the four major trigger points of frontal, occipital, temporal and septal

Candidate Membership (Non-Voting Member)

  • Be a member in good standing of one of the major societies representing their core specialty
  • Board eligible
  • Provide a letter of support from current member needed to join
  • Surgery minimums for joining are no less than five cases in three of the four major trigger points of frontal, occipital, temporal and septal, once five have been met, status can then be elevated to Active Membership upon board certification and taking a relevant course as outlined within the Active Membership requirements.

Resident/Fellow Membership (Non-Voting Member)

  • Be a resident in an ACGME accredited Plastic Surgery, ENT or Neurosurgery to join
  • Be a fellow in plastic surgery, ENT or neurosurgery advance training, which has graduated from ACGME accredited program
  • Provide a letter of support from the training program director

Medical Student Interest Group (Non-Voting Member)

  • Medical student in any MD or DO program
  • Letter of support from faculty mentor

Affiliate Membership (Non-Voting Member)

  • A scientist, researcher or medical doctor who is involved in the practice or science of migraine surgery and possesses the knowledge and expertise which benefits the mission of MSS

Life Members (Non-Voting Member)

  • Retired or less than 50% of clinical practice
  • Needs to be an active member prior to becoming a life member

Membership Responsibilities

  • Payment of yearly membership dues, due by January 1
    • Active and Candidate Members: $150.00/year
    • Resident and Fellow Members: $25.00/year
    • Life Members: Dues are waived – verification of dues required on an annual basis
    • Affiliate Members: $150.00/year
    • Medical Student Interest Group: No fee
  • Attendance of their respective board maintenance of certification requirement
  • Research is encouraged but not required to maintain membership
  • Active Members may and are encouraged to utilize the MSS logo in their marketing materials, websites and social media platforms.

Ratification of New Members

  • A greater than 75% vote is necessary for a candidate to be approved by the Board of Directors
  • Votes will be held at each Board of Director's meeting
